Chrome electroplating is widely used as surface treatment, yielding a shiny finish. Suppliers offer models with a 6 to 12μm-thick chrome plating. The thicker the layer, the greater the resistance to abrasion and corrosion.
Bronze coating and PVD are available as well. The latter is used to show colorful surfaces in white, yellow and other hues. These two finishes are 20 percent more expensive than chrome plating.
Copper & brass faucets dominate
China suppliers offer options for residential, commercial and industrial applications. Copper and brass types account for the bulk of output, but units in other metal alloys and plastic are available.
Low-end varieties are made of plastic, aluminum alloy or zinc alloy. Midpriced versions adopt aluminum, zinc or copper alloy, while upscale designs use brass. The last material is at least twice as expensive as aluminum or zinc alloy.
More than 70 percent of mainland China’s faucets are equipped with ceramic valves, which can be sourced from domestic suppliers or imported from Europe, the US or Taiwan.
Kitchen faucets: Selections from China consist of aluminum alloy, zinc alloy and brass varieties with water outlets that are larger and longer than those for bathroom use. Some high-end ones are equipped with pullout sprays.
Low-end releases are made of aluminum or zinc alloy with a chrome-plated or polished surface. They use domestically sourced valves. Prices range from $10 to $12 per piece.
Midrange kinds are available for $12 to $20. These adopt locally procured brass. Their surfaces can be electroplated with chrome or nickel, or coated with bronze. The valves come from domestic or Taiwan makers.
Priced more than $20, upscale designs generally employ imported brass electroplated with chrome, nickel or titanium, or covered with bronze. Some are fitted with valves from Spain or the US.
Bathroom faucets: Models in this category are made of plastic or metal, with versions adopting the former typically designed for use with washing machines. Buyers will find intelligent or automatic variants for sinks and bathtubs for more than $50.
Low-end designs are quoted from $4 to $7. These come in ABS or zinc alloy with chrome electroplating. The ceramic valves are locally sourced.
Priced between $7 and $15, midpriced options employ domestic brass. Their ceramic valves are from local suppliers or Taiwan. Models also have chrome-plated surfaces.
Imported brass is widely utilized in the high end. Listing above $15 per piece, releases are designed with various surface treatments such as chrome, nickel and titanium electroplating, and bronze coating. Ceramic valves are imported from the US or Europe.
